Terms of Service

The Alturas Institute — Effective date: October 1, 2026

These terms apply to your use of alturasinstitute.com and the programs of The Alturas Institute ("Alturas," "we," "us"), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational organization. By using the site or our programs, you agree to these terms.

Educational purpose

Alturas provides civic education about the U.S. and Idaho Constitutions, government, and public affairs. Talks, articles, courses, and recordings are educational and reflect the views of their presenters. Nothing on this site is legal advice.

Events

Event details, including dates, times, venues, and prices, may change. We will make reasonable efforts to notify registered attendees of changes or cancellations. Admission paid at the door is non-refundable once the event has taken place.

Courses and memberships

  • Civics 101 is a one-time purchase that includes the live Zoom sessions for the cohort you register for and access to its recordings as described at purchase.
  • The Alturas Learning Library is a monthly membership billed automatically each month until you cancel. You can cancel at any time; access continues through the end of the paid period. We do not provide refunds for partial months.
  • Promotional codes, including partner discounts, apply as described at checkout and may not be combined unless stated.
  • Payments are processed by Stripe. Prices may change with notice to existing members before their next billing date.

Text message program

Program name: The Alturas Institute Talk Alerts
Description: reminders and updates about Dr. David Adler's talks and Alturas events near you.
Frequency: message frequency varies; typically no more than a few messages per month.
Cost: message and data rates may apply.
Opt out: reply STOP to any message to unsubscribe. You will receive one confirmation message and no further texts.
Help: reply HELP or email david.adler@alturasinstitute.com.
Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Consent to receive texts is not a condition of any purchase. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle mobile information.

Content and use

Course materials, recordings, and articles are for your personal, non-commercial use. Please do not copy, redistribute, or share login access without our written permission. Members may share the public links we provide for promotion.

Your conduct

Please be respectful at events and in any online spaces we host. We may remove anyone who disrupts an event or misuses our services.

Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The site and programs are provided "as is." To the extent permitted by law, Alturas is not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of the site or programs, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the prior twelve months.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Idaho.

Changes

We may update these terms. The effective date above shows when they last changed.
