Lynn Brooks is the founder of Recorders without Borders, a non-profit dedicated to establishing sustainable music programs in Kenyan schools. She is also the International Representative for the Boy Scouts of America’s (now fully co-ed) Capitol Area Council, responsible for promoting the World Organization of the Scout Movement’s (WOSM) mission to: “Create A Better World.” This is achieved through promotion of the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals, WOSM initiatives such as Messengers of Peace, global Scouting connections, and international travel.

Seeking to employ her life experiences, education and resources to address social inequities and broaden awareness of our multifaceted world, she has exposed many US teachers and their students to Kenyan culture through Recorders without Borders. Lynn created a need-based scholarship for incoming University of Virginia freshmen to participate in the optional wilderness orientation. She also established a partnership between the University of Virginia’s Ridley Scholars Program and the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) to make immersive outdoor experiences accessible to African-American students.

A longtime resident of Austin, Texas, Lynn’s education includes BA from the University of Virginia,1980 and MBA, University of Texas at Austin, 1985. Her work experience focused on entrepreneurship and small business development.

Lynn is honored to be a member of the board of the Alturas Institute.
